So, peanut butter whiskey is a thing - and that means so are peanut butter whiskey drinks. When I discovered a) peanut butter whiskey existed, and b) it WAS SO DELICIOUS, I immediately started dreaming of everything I could possible make with it. The combos are iconic: peanut butter and chocolate? Heck yes. Peanut butter and banana? So in for that. But let's start with the one and only: peanut butter and jam.
While these cocktails contain two ingredients and could not be easier, don't mistake that for simplicity in taste. It combines everything you love about PB & J, the fruity sweetness with that savory salt of the peanut butter, and tastes ridiculously good. Like your childhood, but in the most sophisticated way.
What Is Peanut Butter Whiskey?
It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Whiskey flavored with peanut butter, or peanuts. There are so many different options for peanut butter whiskey drinks, (I think I might do a whole post on that later), but I love the contrast of something that's seemingly so simple and nostalgic being made into a cocktail like this one. Plus it's so simple. That's a big bonus.
What Kinds of Peanut Butter Whiskey's are There?
There's definitely a few out on the market now, and so far, Skrewball (the original) is my favourite. Check out these other ones as well though:
- SQRRL: Smooth and a little sweet.
- Skrewball: Heavy peanut butter flavor (obvi), but with hints of buttered popcorn. Who can possibly say no to that. Honestly.
- Skatterbrain: Finishes with notes of vanilla and chocolate, which also sounds amazing.
What about Chambord?
This is a black raspberry liqueur that is positively delightful (and apparently the recipe dates back to the 1680's!). It's made with raspberries, blackberries, and Cognac. So while the fruity flavors are heavy in this one, the Cognac also adds notes of vanilla, which blends perfectly in this drink.
How to Make it
Probably my favourite part about this entire cocktail is how freaking easy it is to make. You need two ingredients, some ice, and a couple of rocks glasses. If you want to get fancy, throw some blackberries on a cocktail pick and call it a day. I also absolutely love the way they look: the Chambord is this deep purply-red, and it's heavier than the whiskey, so it sits at the bottom of your glass and creates this subtle ombre effect. The peanut butter whiskey is a caramel-y gold color, and it reminds me of looking at a sunset.
Here's how you do it to get the best effect:
- Place a large ice cube (or just a couple regular ice cubes) in a rocks glass.
- Slowly drizzle in the Chambord over the ice (just to help it get colder faster)
- Slowly drizzle in the peanut butter whiskey (you don't want the two to mix and ruin the sunset effect).
- Garnish with fresh raspberries or blackberries.
- If you want, stir to get a complete mix of the peanut butter and jam flavor, or drink as is, where you'll get more peanut butter at the top, raspberry at the bottom.
And honestly, that's it. It's a great drink to sip on, especially after dinner, because it does taste more like a dessert. Plus, you can totally play around with the ratio of peanut butter whiskey to Chambord. I find that the Chambord tends to be a bit overpowering, so I put less of it in. But if you're a fan of fruity, go ahead and up it.

Peanut Butter & Jam Cocktails
- 2 oz peanut butter whiskey such as Skrewball
- 1 oz Chambord
- blackberries or raspberries for garnish
- Prepare two rocks glasses with ice.
- Pour in the Chambord.
- Slowly add the peanut butter whiskey.
- Garnish with the berries. Drink as is, or mix for the full PB & J effect!
