A true Campbell Christmas Classic. These are kind of like date squares, but replace the dates with chocolate and gooey caramel. You're welcome.
Ingredients
- 64 caramels (the kind the come individually wrapped - unwrap them!)
- 1 C. carnation milk
- 2 C. flour
- 2 C. oats
- 1.5 C. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1.5 C. butter
- 2 C. chocolate chips
- 1 C. walnuts (optional, I don't use them)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350F.
Melt the caramels and milk over low heat in the microwave. Put the microwave on medium power for 3 minutes. Stir the mixture until smooth and set aside.
Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt and butter. Cut the butter until it's about pea-sized. Press have the mixture into a 9x13" pan. Bake for five minutes.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips (and walnuts, if using) over the bottom crust. Pour caramel over the top. Sprinkle the second half of the oat mixture over the top. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
These freeze really well, so if you want to make-ahead, no problem!
