How to Cook a

The Gourmet Bon Vivant

Tomahawk Steak

Grilling season is just getting going, and you NEED to try Tomahawk steak. This steak has tons of delicious flavor and marbling, but with a long bone that gives it a super fancy presentation.

The ribeye comes from the cow's rib section near the back and is known for being one of the most flavorful cuts of beef. What makes the tomahawk special is that bone - it not only looks cool, but it also helps add extra flavor to the steak as it cooks.

If you've ever been to a traditional steakhouse, you've no doubt seen these on the menu for upwards of $150 for 36oz. YIKES. It's definitely a treat, and a luxury - not an every day kind of meal. However, you can make this at home for MUCH cheaper.

Ingredients

The most important ingredient is the steak. We're going to let the flavor and tenderness shine through on it's own (with a bit of s&p)!

Season

Don't be shy with the salt and pepper here. It's so important to bring out the overall flavor of the steak itself.

Heat

Preheat and scrape off your grill. You want it to be at least 600F.

Sear

Let it sear on one side for about four minutes.

Flip

Do the same thing on the other side. At this point, take it off the grill and finish it in the oven for 7-8 minutes for medium rare.

Internal Temperature

Depending on how you like you're steak done, refer to the chart above. We highly recommend a meat thermometer!

Doneness/Internal Temp (°F) Rare: 120-125°F Medium Rare: 130-135°F Medium: 140-145°F Medium Well: 150-155°F Well Done: 160°F and above

Rest

Rest the steak for 5-7 minutes on a cooling rack over a baking sheet.

Serve

Slice it up and serve, you're good to go!
