How to Make a Butter Board for Fall

The Gourmet Bon Vivant

The butter board is everything an appetizer should be: easy, creative, great for a crowd, and above all delicious.

One of the great things about these boards is that the butter is like your flavor canvas. They are going to be AMAZING holiday appetizers this year!

Other Flavor Combos

Scribbled Arrow

– Butter + radish + parsley – Butter + figs + arugula + prosciutto – Butter + tomatoes + basil   – Butter + olives + lemon + capers – Butter + anchovies + pickled white onion

Radish

Beyond Butter

– Cream cheese + smokes salmon + pickled red onions + dill – Goat cheese + roasted grapes + rosemary – Goat cheese +cranberries + rosemary + bacon

Floral

Another thing to think about: textures. Butter boards are best when they have different texture layers. We've got the creamy down, but it's fun to add something soft, something crunchy, crispy, and fresh.

Ingredients

This is just one version, feel free to get creative with your own toppings!

Spread the Butter

Make sure it's room temperature! If you have a stone board to spread it on (rather than wood) this makes for easier clean-up.

Add your toppings

Try using your heaviest toppings first (in this case, the squash), and saving your lightest until last (sage).

Garnish

Finish it off with something green, like herbs or microgreens.

Enjoy!
